Prior to going back to school at thirty six years of age, I worked for General Motors in the factory for fifteen years from 1976 to 1991. I am a native of a little town called Lockport New York. Lockport is located just on the out skirts of Buffalo New York. General Motors employed just about everyone in the town. It employed fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters. It is no surprise that I worked there as well. As time marched on I started to feel compelled to change my life. although my father and friends worked there I was not happy. I felt that I could do more with my life. I soon left General Motors and started college in 1994.

My goal in going back to school was to become a Radiological Technologist (taking x-rays). However when I got half way thru the program I realized that if I am going to create a second chance for myself, why not go all the way? I politely excused myself from the Radiological Technology program and set my sights on a career in chiropractic.

I chose chiropractic for a very good reason. Growing up I loved to play the guitar and I also loved boxing. As it happened I was training for a boxing match and I was doing my weight training at the YMCA with two of my best friends. I was doing shoulder shrugs with a considerable amount of weight and I broke technique and leaned forward to far and it happened, I heard this loud pop in my upper back and hit the floor writhering in pain. I could not move with out feeling horrible pain. My friends picked me up and literally carried me to a cab. We were not sure where to go or what to do until one of my friends said that he had heard something about chiropractors being experts with back pain, so off to the chiropactor we went. My friends carried me into the chiropractors office where I had to fill out some paper work and was into see the doctor before I knew it. The doctor gave me a good exam and explained to me what he thought the problem was and that he could help me. He explained what an adjustment was and what therapies he would use to treat my problem. I agreed to the treatment and we proceeded. It was amazing, when the doctor was done I got up off the table and was able to walk on my own. My friends were amazed as well. The doctor explained to me that I would need follow up treatments to retrain the injured area. Being an athelete I understood perfectly what he ment. As we were leaving the office I turned to the chiropractor and said, that was unbelievable I wish I could do that, he smiled and said you can but it takes alot of school and alot training. I was eighteen years old at the time and had just started at general motors so it did not seem possible. I worked at general motors for fifteen years before I took an early buy out and finally went back to school at age thirty six. I already new what I wanted to be and I worked hard for eight years because thats how long it takes to be a chiropractor and I graduated from Life University at the age of forty four years old. I have now been in practice for seven years and I am devoting my life to helping others the way I was helped.
